Princess Athena of Denmark was looking shy and nervous during photo shoot near the family home in Kalmpenborg ahead of her first day of school on August 12, 2017

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark taking their daughter on her first day of school. The family arranged to have a photoshoot at the family home before they left for the school, pictured, so as not to disrupt the day for any other children.


Doting parents Prince Joachim (driving) and his second wife Princess Marie looked proud as they embarked on the school run to St Joseph’s Sisters School in Odrup, not far from the family home, with their youngest child Princess Athena of Denmark on the back seat.

The school starting age in Denmark is actually six, with Princess Athena, born in January 2012, currently five-and-a-half. But her parents decided they would rather her be one of the youngest in the class than the oldest

The young Princess will be attending classes at level 0 at St Joseph’s Sisters School in Odrup, north of Copenhagen not far from the home.
